FEED Initiative: Empowering Food Entrepreneurs in Wisconsin
Food entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for economic growth, but success requires navigating business planning, licensing and financial regulations. The Food Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development (FEED) Initiative, led by the University of Wisconsin Extension, provides hands-on support to early-stage food businesses.
In 2024, FEED connected with over 400 participants through a webinar series, an in-person summit and specialized workshops. The annual FEED Summit in Milwaukee hosted 152 attendees, featuring 25 sessions on topics like grant writing and financial management. To improve accessibility, FEED launched bilingual food truck workshops, drawing 70% participants in Eau Claire and 55% in Milwaukee.
Results show a 36% increase in participants implementing marketing strategies and 30% gaining confidence in navigating food safety regulations. Nearly 50% expanded their professional networks, reducing the isolation of food startups.
As one attendee put it, “Just knowing we’re not alone and hearing success stories gave us a morale boost!” FEED continues to break barriers, providing entrepreneurs with the knowledge and connections to thrive.
