Expanding access to high-quality summer learning with Missouri 4-H
Experiential learning helps youth develop essential life skills, yet educational gaps widened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Research confirms that quality out-of-school programs improve personal development, academic attitudes and long-term success. To address these challenges, Missouri 4-H expanded programming in 2024, increasing accessibility and forging new partnerships to reach youth.
With grant support, Missouri 4-H introduced career exploration programs, simulations and day camps, focusing on social-emotional well-being. Collaborating with community libraries and centers, 4-H provided hands-on STEAM experiences in coding, aerospace, robotics, gardening and music — engaging both new and returning participants. From May to August 2024, 5,349 youth participated in Missouri 4-H programs.
Surveys showed that 60% improved work habits, 70% increased interest in learning, 84% felt 4-H respected their family’s culture and 70% believed 4-H helped prepare them for the future
Additionally, 48% of families were new to 4-H, expanding the program’s reach.
Through these efforts, Missouri 4-H empowered youth with skills for academic success, career readiness and community engagement, ensuring a lasting impact beyond summer.
