Online resource a ‘recipe’ for healthier, more affordable food choices
Many Michigan residents face barriers to healthy eating, including limited time, cooking knowledge and financial constraints. Having easy, affordable and nutritious meal ideas readily available can improve food security and support long-term health. However, people often struggle to find the practical resources to meet their needs.
In June 2025, Michigan State University (MSU) Extension launched a free online recipe website to help individuals and families find dietitian-approved meals that also are budget-friendly and easy to prepare. The site features dozens of recipes, instructional cooking videos, nutrition facts, food safety guidance and basic cooking tips. The platform supports users of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced home cooks. In the first six months since its launch, the recipe website has had 2,315 users and 3,694 views.
By making reliable, easy-to-follow recipes and essential cooking knowledge readily available, MSU Extension helps Michigan residents make healthier food choices, reduce reliance on processed foods and stretch limited food dollars — contributing to better public health and food security statewide.
