Recognizing regenerative ag champions
Small-scale farmers who use regenerative practices play an important role in local food systems. These farmers often operate in areas with limited access to fresh food and provide healthy options for their communities. Despite their contributions, they rarely receive recognition or support. Raising awareness of their work can help strengthen community-based food production and encourage practices that improve soil and crop resilience.
The Regenerative Champions project developed by the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center uses storytelling to highlight the experiences of farmers who practice regenerative agriculture. The award-winning project now includes a podcast series, a rotating narrative exhibit and academic research and training. Media coverage has included features in statewide publications, increasing visibility for farmers and providing resources that have helped some secure grants for their operations. Farmers and community members have shared positive feedback. The stories have inspired increased support for local farms and food systems.
