Workout Wednesday virtual walking group
COVID-19 restrictions often made group physical activity difficult or impossible, increasing obesity rates across the State of Louisiana. America’s Health Rankings position Louisiana as 43rd for physical activity. The Louisiana State University AgCenter established a Workout Wednesday Virtual Walking Group for adults during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide online accountability partners when people couldn’t physically exercise together in person. This program was held twice a month and allowed participants an opportunity to log online and walk together virtually from wherever they were. An indoor walking video was used to facilitate the walking portion of the program. Ouachita Parish SNAP-Ed and Family and Consumer Sciences Extension agents provided a nutrition tip, cooking skill lesson or other demonstration to include nutrition education along with physical activity.
